Bluegrass Mondays at Atkins Celebration Hall in Paragould, AR

 

   KASU, 91.9 FM, Bluegrass Monday concerts on the fourth Monday night of each month at Atkins Celebration Hall, 101 South Pruit St. in Paragould, Ar. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for an open jam session. Musicians are asked to bring only acoustic instruments and play only bluegrass music. The jam sessions will end promptly at 6:45 p.m. prior to the beginning of the concert.

   Also beginning at 5:00 p.m. Simply Delicious Catering will be serving a "country style buffet." The meal is 10.00. Admission to the concert is free but the hat will be passed to pay the band.

Performing July 28th - The Harmon Family

    The Harman Family will perform a concert of bluegrass music on Monday, July 28, at 7 PM at Atkins Celebration Hall, 101 South Pruett Street , in downtown Paragould , Arkansas .  The concert is part of the Bluegrass Monday concert series presented by KASU 91.9 FM.  Admission is free, but KASU will literally “pass the hat” to collect money to pay the group.

     Mike Harman played banjo for Alison Krauss in her band Union Station from 1986 to 1990, being featured on her platinum selling “Now That I’ve Found You” CD and on her Grammy-nominated CD “Two Highways.”  Beginning in 1975, Mike performed with his brother Bull and sister Lori as the Harman Family.  Now, the group features Mike, his wife Stacy, and their three sons.

     In addition to playing banjo, Mike Harman also plays guitar and fiddle.  Nineteen-year-old Mark Harman plays guitar, banjo, bass and Dobro.  Jeff Harman, sixteen-years-old, plays bass and guitar.  Ten-year-old John Harman plays mandolin.  All of them, along with Stacy Harman, are featured on vocals.

     The Harman Family released their debut CD in August 2004.  The follow-up CD was released in January 2006, and that recording features guest appearances from Alison Krauss, four-time world fiddle champion Mike Cleveland, and Jeff Guernsey, a long-time member of Vince Gill’s band.  Two additional CDs by the band are being released this summer.

     In their concerts, the Harman Family performs a mixture of traditional and contemporary bluegrass music as well as some Gospel tunes.  The family also hosts its own monthly bluegrass music concert series in their hometown of Shipman, Illinois .
